You are allowed to choose peace over potential,
People give you what they have, not always what you want. Sometimes, you can love someone deeply, be there for them, support them, and still realize that they are simply incapable of giving you the same kind of love, effort, consideration, or support that you need.
And that is okay.
Someone’s inability to meet your needs does not mean your needs are too much. Their lack of effort does not mean you are not worthy of effort. Their inability to show up for you does not reduce your value. People can only give from what they possess emotionally, mentally, financially, or spiritually. You cannot keep asking an empty cup to pour into yours.
The painful part is accepting that sometimes love is not enough. You may understand someone’s limitations and still decide that those limitations are not something you are willing to live with. Understanding someone does not mean you have to stay where you are constantly disappointed.
You are allowed to walk away.
You are allowed to choose peace over potential, consistency over promises, and reciprocity over one-sided effort. Walking away does not make you selfish, difficult, or ungrateful. Sometimes, it simply means you have finally understood that your worth should not be measured by how much someone is willing or able to give you.
Do not beg people to become what you need them to be. Do not shrink your expectations just to keep someone in your life. And do not convince yourself that you should accept less because someone else cannot offer more.
People give you what they have. You get to decide whether what they have is enough for you.
And if it isn’t, you are allowed to walk away, with love, with dignity, and without questioning your worth.
